Green Onions 2024. Cover – Mauri Sanchis Hammond Endorser
Green Onions is, probably, the most important Hammond Organ song ever. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it, played by the Blues Brothers featuring Paul Schaffer on Hammond in the album Made in America.
Blues Brothers movie actually led me to find out about great american musicians like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles or John Lee Hooker and I started searching all of them and buying their music when I was in my 20’s. Suddenly, I realized that both the guitarist, Steve Cropper, and the bassist, Donald “Duck” Dunn, were the foundation of Booker T. & The Mg’s. Ever since, I have been a great fan of Booker T. Jones and I loved playing tunes like Melting Pot or Time is tight but Green Onions was my favourite and I have played it endlessly.
In my second album, Good Vibes!!!, featuring Bill Evans, Dean Brown and Joey De Francesco, I already recorded a very modern Marcus Miller-like rendition of Green Onions and I added my own bridge with horn section which I really dig. However, by the end of 2023, I decided to record a “classical” cover of Green Onions for all Hammond fans to enjoy it. Still, I humbly believe my “bridge” deserves to be featured and I recorded from 02:50 until the end. You will it hear nowhere else but here!!!, unless somebody records a new rendition with my bridge in it. Please check it out and let me know if you like it
By the way…I recorded my part at Samurai Studios in Brooklyn while I was visiting New York with my wife and son. Soon, I will publish another video with lots of New York footage on my track called Maurius, as a tribute to Marcus Miller.
